Portion of proceeds to benefit Brain Aneurysm Foundation
The Hicksville Fire Department hosted their Second Annual BBQ Competition and Car Show on Sept. 23 at Cantiague Park in Hicksville. Company 4, led by Capt. John Imbriale, 1st Lt. Michael Doerflein and 2nd Lt. Matthew Keyer, gave credit to the entire company for their efforts and hard work in the planning and execution of their event.
Fifteen cook teams, 20 vendors and more than 200 show cars wowed the large crowd taking in the sights on the first day of autumn. The festivities were opened by Hicksville’s own Nassau County Legislator, Rose Marie Walker; followed by the national anthem performed by Samantha Farrell.
Volunteer Hose Co. 4 will be donating a portion of its proceeds to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation in the name of one of their members who had suffered a brain aneurysm immediately following their 1st Annual BBQ Competition and Car Show in 2011.
“We are pleased to share that our stricken member has returned to work on Monday, Sept. 24, exactly one year and one week to the date of his aneurysm. We have our brother back and there’s nothing more that we could ask for,” said Capt. John Imbriale.
The Brain Aneurysm Foundation brings awareness and support to those who have suffered a brain aneurysm as well as their families. Sal Astuto, a member of Co. 4 and committee member, who leads the BBQ cook teams, is looking forward to next year’s event in hopes that additional teams will sign up to compete. The event is creating a buzz in anticipation that at some point the Co. 4 event will become a part of the National BBQ Competition circuit. Co-chairman Brian Quinn is also looking forward to the 2013 event, expecting to bring more vendors and attract more spectators. Co. 4 would like to give special thanks to their sponsors who helped to make this event so successful, including John Deere of Hicksville, AVA Pork, New American Auto Parts and On Site Energy.
A tentative date of Sept. 22, 2013 is being observed for next year’s event. Anyone interested in additional information regarding this event may contact Volunteer Hose Co. 4 at co4cookoff@optonline.net or visit www.co4cookoff.com.
