NHP Team Runs To Honors At Relay Race

The 27th anniversary Bethpage Ocean To Sound Relay marked another great day for local runners. A record 144 teams enjoyed near perfect weather conditions to complete the course. Teams of eight runners each traversed a 50-mile course on Sunday morning, Sept. 23rd. The first runners started at Jones Beach State Park, and they and their teammates followed a route that wound its way through Wantagh, Seaford, Massapequa, Farmingdale, Old Bethpage, Plainview, Huntington and back west into Cold Spring Harbor, Syosset and Oyster Bay before ending at Fireman’s Field in Oyster Bay, adjacent to Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park.

“Team Katie”, representing the Katie McBride Foundation and sponsored by Mike McBride, owner of the New Hyde Park Funeral Home, took home the first and third place overall awards in the Relay. Team Katie 1, with USATF Cross Country and Steeplechase superstar Delilah DiCresenzo handling the leadoff leg, took first place honors in 4 hours, 29 minutes, 4 seconds, with Team Katie 2 third in 4:53:23. Also scoring with awards were the New Hyde Park Running Club, who took 1st place in the Men’s Senior Masters Division with a time of 5:40:46.
