Oyster Festival

The Oyster Festival at Theodore Roosevelt Park on the waterfront runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 13 and 14. It has tall ships, handmade crafts, Coast Guard demos, pirate treasure hunts, music, carnival midway rides, petting zoo and a giant food court with 25 food booths including raw oysters. It is a charity event. There is free parking along the Route 106 corridor. It is an alcohol-free and pet-free event.

Jewelry Sale and Flea Market

Jewelry sale and flea market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Bede’s Church, 220 Berry Hill Rd., Syosset. Flea market items needed. Something for everyone. Great bargains. East Woods School Open House

East Woods School will be having an open house from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. East Woods School is a co-educational, independent day school for pre-nursery through eighth grade, including a full-day kindergarten. The school is located on 46 acres in Oyster Bay, and has state-of-the-art science and technology labs, as well as a brand new performing arts studio. Manhasset High School Class of 1962 50th Reunion

The Manhasset High School Class of 1962 will be holding its 50th reunion on the weekend of October 19 to 21 in Manhasset with a dinner dance at the Strathmore Vanderbilt Country Club on Saturday night. The class will have cocktails on Friday night October 19 at Edison’s Ale House (nee Gino’s) 550 Plandome Rd., from 7 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, there will be a tour of the high school, including lunch, starting in the cafeteria at 11:30 followed by the MHS versus Valley Stream South home football game at 2 p.m. Saturday evening is the dinner/dance from 7 p.m. to midnight at Strathmore Vanderbilt Country Club, 260 Country Club Dr., Manhasset. The weekend will conclude with brunch at the Roslyn Claremont Hotel, 1221 Old Northern Blvd., Roslyn, from 9 a.m. to noon. Sagamore Hill Day Family Festival

Sagamore Hill National Historic Site will host a traditional fall family festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival will celebrate Sagamore Hill’s agricultural history as well as Theodore Roosevelt’s 154th birthday. Activities will include entertainment for children, old-fashioned games and crafts, interactive farm demonstrations, exhibits, music, farm animal petting area, food vendors, Theodore Roosevelt as portrayed by James Foote and more. Nature walks at the Hoffman Center Nature Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary located at 6000 Northern Blvd., in Muttontown. Enjoy a guided nature walk throughout the fall. •Oct. 20: Volunteers Needed. Invasive Species Pull at Shu Swamp. At 2:30 p.m. Join the Shu Crew and continue efforts to eradicate English ivy from this beautiful preserve. •Oct. 20: Treasures of the Forest-Story, Walk and Crafts at Tiffany Creek and the Oyster Bay Library at 11 a.m. Wander through the woods at Tiffany Creek Preserve in Oyster Bay Cove. Each child will receive a treasure bag and will be encouraged to pick up leaves, sticks, etc. After the walk, a caravan will take you to the Oyster Bay Library and to make collages out of the treasures collected in the woods. •Oct. 21: Nature Walk at Sunken Meadow State Park at 8 a.m. Sunken Meadow has a wide range of topography that sustains a variety of flora and fauna. The three miles of beach meets tall, glacier-formed bluffs at the west end of the shoreline. A man-made dam separates the park’s brackish creek and marshes from the tidal flats. South of the flats are acres of undeveloped and heavily-wooded rolling hills. A $10 entrance fee is charged from 8 a.m. on. If you have an Empire State Passport, admission is free. •Oct. 27: Walk/Run for Conservation and Wildlife Fundraiser at Planting Fields, 9:30 a.m. HOBAS’ First Ever Walk/Run for Wildlife. This fundraiser is for everyone and anyone willing to walk, run or do a combination of both in order to raise money for conservation efforts such as habitat restoration, wildlife research projects, and other conservation initiatives. Registration is $25 per person for adults (raise a minimum of $50 and fee will be waived and you will receive a t-shirt), $15 for kids under the age of 18. Children under the age of 5 are free. Raise at least $100 and be entered to win a gift basket filled with $250 worth of gift certificates from local merchants. U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Needs Oyster Bay Recruits

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla in the Oyster Bay area is recruiting new members. They are needed to assist the Coast Guard in performing Homeland Security missions and to implement the Coast Guard’s many recreational boating safety programs. No experience or boat is required. Muttontown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

The Fellowship provides an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie, with talks presented by intelligent enlightening and non-dogmatic speakers who come from the entire spectrum of the arts, history and sciences. This is followed by coffee and an informal discussion circle, held in the turn-of-the-18th century farmhouse in a bucolic setting. Weekly Events

•Alcoholics Anonymous closed step meeting Sundays at 8 p.m. and open meeting at the same time. On Wednesdays at 8 p.m. there is a beginner’s meeting and a closed discussion meeting. Anyone can attend the open meetings. The closed meetings are for anyone who has a desire to stop drinking. The meetings are held at Christ Church, 61 E. Main St., Oyster Bay. •Alzheimer’s Support Group. Are you a caregiver who would like to share your experience with others? There is strength in knowing you are not alone.
