HeLa Cell Free Lecture
Free lecture featuring cell biologist and cancer researcher Dr. David Spector who talks about HeLa cells. The Community Social Action Committee of the Interreligious & Human Needs Council has changed the annual Thanksgiving and Christmas giving programs because of Superstorm Sandy. Imigration Reform
Enrique Morones, founder and executive director of the San Diego nonprofit Border Angels will speak on Monday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock at 48 Shelter Rock Rd. in Manhasset. Morones said an estimated 10,000 people have died trying to cross the border in the past two decades. There is a mass grave site in Holtville, Calif. that contains the unidentified remains of 700 people. He says an estimated 250 million undocumented people around the world have crossed borders, including 11 million in the U.S. The suggested donation is $5. Light refreshments will be served. Nature walks at the Hoffman Center Nature Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary located at 6000 Northern Blvd., in Muttontown. Enjoy a guided nature walk throughout the fall. U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Needs Oyster Bay Recruits
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla in the Oyster Bay area is recruiting new members. They are needed to assist the Coast Guard in performing Homeland Security missions and to implement the Coast Guard’s many recreational boating safety programs. No experience or boat is required. Muttontown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
The Fellowship provides an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie, with talks presented by intelligent enlightening and non-dogmatic speakers who come from the entire spectrum of the arts, history and sciences. This is followed by coffee and an informal discussion circle, held in the turn-of-the-18th century farmhouse in a bucolic setting.
