Donald E. Jarvis passed away at age 88, on November 22, 2012 in Kennesaw, Georgia, with his loving daughter Laurie and her husband Tom, at his side. He was a lifelong resident of East Norwich until December 2006, when he moved to Georgia.
On August 1, 1948 Donald wed Vivian Elizabeth Gossett they were married for 64 years. They had four children: Brenda Downing of Dallas; Donny Jarvis of Bayville; Laurie and Tom Larson of Kennesaw, Georgia; Hewlett Reed Jarvis of Oyster Bay.
He had nine grandchildren. He was “Popie” to: Corey (Crystal), Tiffany, Brandon (Kelli), Aaron, Ashley and Wesleigh Larson; Kyle Copeland; John and Ryan Jarvis. His two great-grandchildren are: Kaleb and Noah Larson.
He is survived by his sister Jane Pettengill of Hagaman, NY, plus a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Jarvis was a retired policeman, a general contractor, and a 67-year member of the East Norwich Volunteer Fire Department. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, hunter and vegetable gardener. He won the Oyster Bay Rotary Club tomato growing contest many times, coming in with two and three pound tomatoes.
Mr. Jarvis’ will be interred in the Brookville Cemetery. A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in memory of Donald E. Jarvis to: East Norwich Fire Company Juniors, 900 Oyster Bay Road, East Norwich NY 11732.
