Town Board Gets Back To Business

Routine items attended to at first board meeting of 2013

The Town of Oyster Bay Board held its first meeting of 2013. Town Supervisor John Venditto wished everyone a Happy New Year before the board got down to rather mundane business. First was a public hearing to consider hydrant rental by the Oyster Bay Water District for 2013.

“Each year we go through the routine,” remarked Venditto.

No residents spoke at the public hearing, which ended quickly, and a resolution pertaining to the decision was approved later. In all, the board passed 40 resolutions. Among them:

Installation of pool liners at Bethpage Community Park

Town-wide senior trips throughout the first three months of 2013

Increased fees and new fees at the town’s animal shelter

Hiring a ventriloquist for a town event

Hiring a musician for a town event

Agreements pertaining to the community-development block grant program

Rhonda Samuels, executive director of the Integrated Medical Foundation, thanked the board for their efforts in rescheduling and relocating the 4th Annual Blue Ribbon 5K Run. The event, which raises money for the fight against prostate cancer, was slated for the Oyster Bay Golf Course in November. However, Superstorm Sandy left the golf course strewn with much debris. The run was moved to Syosset-Woodbury Park on Sunday, Dec. 9. Samuels said that many of the runners were happy with the switch as they felt that Syosset-Woodbury Park is a safer course and Samuels said she would seriously consider holding the event there in the future.
