Trojans attempt to finish out regular season on a high note
The boys basketball team has had an up and down year as they make their way to the last quarter of the season in the month of February.
The boys have played a number of games tight into the fourth quarter but have not been able to put away their opponents. With a record of 3 wins and 5 losses in Conference A-1 coach Larry Steimer will have the team focused on a strong finish and a run at a playoff spot.
The Trojans have utilized their overall team speed and athleticism to pressure their opponents with solid defense and good ball movement. With the up tempo play, the boys have been able to pressure their opponents into turnovers and poor shooting.
Ed Blatz, Dan Bonchonsky, Andrew Granville and Rob Wotczak have given Garden City an edge on the boards and points in the paint with Blatz picking up several double-doubles along the way. While on offense the combination of Kyle Skramko, Spencer Bais, Joe Leighton and Mark DeSantis have pushed the ball up court, penetrated the lane and drilled a good percentage of shots behind the three-point arc.
The Trojans have also been able to use their deep bench of Michael Collins, Matt Kelly, Chris Larkin, Ryan Giacini, Dew Pascale, and Ethan Gibbons to help when called upon.
Garden City will finish up their regular season play with four games in February, capped by Senior Night on Feb. 11 at 6:15 p.m. Come spend the evening in the GC gym with family, friends and teammates as they honor Eddie Blatz, Kyle Skramko, Spencer Bais, Dan Bonchonsky and Andrew Granville.
