Huntington Hit-and-run Seriously Injures Sunoco Employee

Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are investigating a hit-and-run in Huntington Wednesday that seriously injured a gas station employee, police said.

The victim, 60-year-old Jaffery Syed, of Greenlawn, was founding lying on the ground at the Sunoco gas station on Jericho Turnpike at 4:20 p.m., police said. Witnesses told police that a man driving a newer-model Jeep Grand Cherokee, which is possibly grey or silver, was attempting to pull out of the station when he struck Syed as he was standing by the gas pumps.

The driver fled the scene and was last seen heading east on Jericho Turnpike in Huntington, police said.

Witnesses described the driver as a black male in his 20s or 30s, police said. The Jeep had out-of-state license plates.

Syed was transported by helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital and was listed in serious condition.

The investigation is continuing, police said. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding the hit-and-run to call Crime Stoppers at 631-220-TIPS. All calls are anonymous.
