When the seniors that make up the basketball squad that took the court as the Garden City High School Trojan look back to its 2013 season, it may be a view tinged by disappointment given how the team just missed the playoffs. But as bad as that may seem, the important thing is that Spencer Bais, Ed Blatz, Dan Bonchonsky, Andrew Granville and Kyle Skramko were far more than just mere basketball players. The quintet was all involved and successful in a variety of other activities—both athletic and academic—ranging from football and lacrosse to wind ensemble and marching band. So is it any wonder that blue chip colleges like Georgetown, St. John’s, Dartmouth, Villanova, Boston College and Northwestern are all institutions of higher learning that this fivesome will either be attending or have a legitimate shot at matriculating in?
