Obituary: Barbara A. Schaffner

Schaffner, Barbara A., 72, of Levittown, formerly of Elmhurst, IL, died Feb. 4, in Bolingbrook, IL. She was born August 31, 1940, in Elmhurst. Beloved daughter of the late George A. and Isabella Flemming Schaffner, dear sister of Mary (Bob) Korman of Omaha, NE, adored aunt of Erin Gillotte, Robyn (Dave) Lisy and Michael (Julie) Korman, all of Bolingbrook, IL, great-aunt of Caitlin, Meghan, Alex, Sydney, Kimberly and Madison, great-great aunt of Charlotte.

Schaffner grew up in Elmhurst and was a graduate of Immaculate Conception Grade and High School. She attended Mundelein College in Chicago and received her undergraduate degree in Education with a minor in English. Schaffner later received a master’s degree in Educational English from Hofstra University. She was employed as a teacher in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District for many years and was a member of The Women in Literacy and Life Assembly of The National Council of Teachers of English. She was an avid reader and loved the theater.

Services and interment were held on Feb. 7 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and Cemetery in Naperville, IL. Arrangements were entrusted to Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Naperville, IL.
