Justen Lopez Earns Swim Awards

Justen Lopez, a fifth-grader at Meadowbrook Elementary School, swimming for Holy Family in Hicksville, captured the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) Boys 10 & under 25 Yard Breaststroke title and establishing a new CYO record in the event. He also captured the same title last year. He capped off the year undefeated in the event. He also helped his team capture the title in the Boys 10 & under 100-yard Freestyle Relay as well as the Boys 10 under Medley Relay breaking both relay records from 2003 and 2006.

The week before, Lopez qualified for eight Metropolitan Junior Olympic Swim events held at the Aquatic Center. He bested many personal records and placed 6th and 10th placed respectively in the 100 and 50-yard Breaststroke. 

On March 8, he helped his Bethpage Barracuda Swim Team win the Police Activity League (PAL) Swim Championships at the Aquatic Center to remain unbeaten during the 2012/2013 season and helped capture the team title. During the meet, Lopez captured 50-yard Breaststroke title and breaking his own team record in the process. 

Overall, Lopez is ranked in the Top 10 of the NY Metropolitan Swimming Association in 50 Yard Breaststroke, with an 8th Place finish during the Metro Zone Team Qualifiers in February held at Lehman College in the Bronx.

Lopez is also a member of the Meadowbrook Elementary School Band, All County in Choir, and member of the Drama Team, landing the role of Aladdin in their upcoming school musical of Disney Kids Aladdin. Last month, he was also the recipient of the Iron Man Award voted upon by his coaches from his Hicksville Crusaders Football Team. He is one of the top competitors of Eric SanJose Martial Arts Competition Team of Garden City. Lopez is the son of Joel and Rosalie Lopez of Levittown.
