This month, Oyster Bay High School is among 13 Nassau high schools that will be participating in the first Comptroller’s Entrepreneurial High School Challenge. This contest is sponsored by Nassau Comptroller George Maragos for scholarships.
High school students will develop a business plan to start new businesses on Long Island.
There will be teams and the first prize is an annual $1,500 scholarship each from Hofstra University and $4,000 provided by Healthplex will be split among the team that comes in second.
Other Long Island businesses are partnering with the comptroller’s office in this very progressive approach to education, which will benefit Long Island as well as the students by motivating them to research and determine what they want to do for a career.
Comptroller Maragos has made suggestions in the areas of biotechnology, wireless technology, education, food distribution and the Nassau Hub and rebuilding the area around the Nassau Coliseum.
Other participating schools include Division Avenue High School, MacArthur High School, Long Island Lutheran, Roslyn High School, Plainedge High School, New Hyde Park Memorial High School, Hicksville High School, Kellenberg High School, Massapequa High School, Sewanhaka High School, Freeport High School and the College Prep Academy for Business & Law in Hempstead.
