Assisted by his brother Chris, Joe Gallagher’s handmade custom puzzle pieces decorated the MacArthur turf as the MacArthur Generals boys’ lacrosse team took on Mineola in recognition of the first annual Autism Awareness Night. Raffle baskets were filled with generous donations from local vendors, such as Toro Pazzo, M&T Dance Unlimited, Segesta Pizza, Ultimate Champions Taekwondo, NY Lizards, Phil’s Pizza, autographed Scott Rodger’s goalie gloves and various school booster clubs.
Over $2,000 was raised with proceeds benefiting The Hagedorn Little Village School, in Seaford. The Hagedorn Little Village School, Jack Joel Center for Special Children (HLVS) is a publicly funded, not-for-profit school, which provides educational and therapeutic services for children with developmental disabilities.
The crowd was first treated to a JV win and the stands erupted in cheer after Jordan Hama scored his first goal of the season. “The energy and enthusiasm in the air just reinforces the close knit community we have here at MacArthur” said JV Coach Chris Leahy.
The Varsity team then took to the field under a beautiful April moon and went on to impress the crowd with a 16-3 win with 10 different players scoring. Goalie James Glatter had five saves and Ryan Purcell had four saves.
