Keeping Kids Safe

News stories continually alert us to a child whose trust has been betrayed by a predator. Thankfully, there are things that parents can do to prevent it. Join Anthony Zenkus, LMSW, director of education and mental health services, on Tuesday, May 7 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Island Trees Public Library, to learn to recognize warning signs in adults who may wish to harm children, and some simple steps to help you minimize the opportunity that your child could ever be harmed.

Free Voice Lessons

Ladies, do you love to sing? Twin County Chorus has a place for you. Women of all ages who enjoy singing are invited to join the Twin County Chorus of Sweet Adelines International in the joys of a cappella harmony. For four weeks starting May 9, at 7 p.m., the chorus will offer free voice lessons at an open house at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, at 3434 Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown. Non-sectarian memorial service held for the remembrance of all brethren who are still listed as POW-MIA. Service on May 11 at 2 p.m. at St. Francis DeChantal, 1309 Wantagh Avenue, Wantagh. 

Scholar In Residence

Join Congregation Beth Tikvah, 3710 Woodbine Ave., Wantagh for the annual Scholar in Residence program on Friday, May 10 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, May 11 at 9:15 a.m. The guest speaker will be Rabbi Jonathan Porath who will be addressing several topics including “Visits to Jews in Russia.” Everyone is welcome. Spring Craft And Vendor Fair

On Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church will be hosting their annual Spring Fair. There will be vendors and crafters of all types, including local art, handbags, jewelry, candles, baby and kid items, accessories, household items, plant and flower sale (Just in time for Mother’s Day) and more. Lunch and baked goods will be available for purchase.  Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church is located at 1845 Wantagh Ave.  Admission is free and there is plenty of free parking in the municipal parking lot behind the church.

Get Hypnotized

On Friday, May 17, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Wantagh Fire Dept. will be hosting The James Munsey Comedy Hypnosis Show. It will be held at Wantagh Fire Dept. headquarters, 3470 Park Ave., Wantagh. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person which includes soda, coffee, tea and dessert. Homemaker’s Bingo

Classic Car Show on July 14 at Bethpage Federal Credit Union at 899 South Oyster Bay Rd in Bethpage. All makes and models welcome.
