Farmingdale State College recently hosted the annual showcasing of heritage and traditions of Japan, Italy, Korea, Guyana, India, Taiwan, Guyana, Thailand, Haiti, the Philippines, China, Turkey and many of the Spanish-speaking countries.
Opening ceremonies began with features of the Lion Dance, Korean drummers, a parade of cultural costumes and an honor guard. Many local officials and community leaders were in attendance including David Chang of the Taipei Cultural Center, Legislator Dr. William Spencer, Assemblymen Andrew Raia and Chad Lupinacci, and also the college’s president, Dr. W. Hubert Keen.
Throughout the day, visitors were entertained by live performances from the different cultural groups, including classical and contemporary musicians, singing, dancing, and artists. Children’s workshops include a snake lantern assembly, origami, watercolor painting, diva and henna artistry.
