Alzheimer’s Regatta
Oakcliff Sailing Center teams up with Sagamore Yacht Club and the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center in a regatta. Race using your own boat or one from Oakcliff. And, says Dawn Riley, OSC executive director, “For something completely different you can do a ‘Poker run’ around West Harbor on board a kayak or paddleboard.’ There is no entry fee but you are asked to raise funds for Alzheimer’s. Founder Isabella Eredita Johnson will bring her group of gifted musicians to perform arias from operas, as well as art songs at Christ Church at 4 p.m. on June 16. The Oyster Bay Railroad Museum hosts its Summer Solstice Celebration on June 20 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Sagamore Yacht Club. Preservation Awards
The Advocates for Historic Preservation and Education Awards reception takes place on July 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Woodlands (the mansion at the Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course on South Woods Road, Woodbury). The honorees are Long Islanders who have distinguished themselves as advocates for history’s vital role in our lives today. The event raises funds in support of the Oyster Bay Historical Society’s ongoing programs and services, including exhibitions, lectures, book signings, workshops, and other community events.
