DNA and Family Research

Have you ever considered DNA testing to trace your ancestry but found you had endless questions? At our June meeting, Forum President Mike Carragher and longtime member Bill Kane will discuss new developments in the use of DNA testing in family research. Both men are experienced in the subject. Carragher will discuss the basics of DNA testing, including genetic and family research, the major testing companies, and the various DNA tests that they offer. Kane will speak about his leap through the DNA looking glass and where it has taken him so far. Join the Irish Family History Forum on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at 11 a.m., to find some of the answers to your questions.

Theatrical Production of Les Misérables

Family Residences and Essential Enterprises, Inc. (FREE), a not-for-profit agency that supports more than 3,500 individuals with different abilities on Long Island, together with the Broadhollow Theater Company, is presenting The FREE Players production of the legendary musical Les Misérables, School Edition.  Performances will be Friday, June 14 at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 15 at 7 p.m. and Sunday June 16t at 2 p.m., 265 East Main Street, East Islip, NY. General Admission tickets cost $20.00; students or individuals with disabilities will be charged $10.00.  For tickets or further information, call (516) 870-7001. Open to all of Long Island- The Association of Generational Experts for Seniors (AGES) is hosting its first FREE “Options For Our Aging World Family & Caregiver Resource Fair” at Lutheran Church of Our Savior, located at 12 Franklin Avenue in Port Washington, NY. Taking place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., this comprehensive event will provide caregivers managing the health and well being of today’s seniors with a one-stop-forum for gathering vital information, products and services to help support senior care, wellness and quality of life.

Miscarriage Support Group

A safe, confidential, supportive environment in which to talk about what you have been through, your reactions and feelings, and how to move forward. You are not alone! Free Veterinary Lectures

Once a month through December, Long Island Cat Fanciers sponsors free lectures given by top local veterinarians on topics relevant to dog and cat owners. All members of the public are welcome to attend. Non-Profit Support Group: Clutterers Anonymous (CLA)

A 12-step self-help group, offers help and support to those who have clutter problems in their homes or workplace.
