Mt. Sinai Hit-and-run Driver Sought

Suffolk County police are looking for the hit-and-run driver that critically wounded a 56-year-old Coram woman in Mount Sinai over the weekend.

The pedestrian, Karen Benjamin, was struck by a vehicle on Canal Road, just west of Mount Sinai/Coram Road at 11 a.m. Sunday, police said. The driver fled the scene westbound without stopping.

The victim was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was admitted while unconscious.

The vehicle was described as a light-colored 2000 to 2003 BMW sedan or station wagon with front and passenger side damage.

Vehicular Crimes Unit detectives ask anyone with information on r the location of the vehicle and/or driver to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
