The University of Scranton has announced its Dean’s List, which recognizes students for academic excellence during the 2013 spring semester. A student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better with a minimum number of credit hours to make the Dean’s List. The list includes students from the Jesuit university’s College of Arts and Sciences, the Kania School of Management, the Panuska College of Professional Studies and the College of Graduate and Continuing Education. More than 1,490 students were named to the 2013 spring semester Dean’s List, including the following area residents.
Stefanie Pia of Plainview is a freshman with a nursing major in Scranton’s Panuska College of Professional Studies
Taylor Silberglied of Plainview is a senior with a occupational therapy major in Scranton’s Panuska College of Professional Studies
Krista Ziegler of Old Bethpage is a sophomore with a exercise science major in Scranton’s Panuska College of Professional Studies
At the University of Rhode Island’s 127th Commencement on Saturday and Sunday, May 18-19, 2013, more than 3,200 undergraduate and 770 graduate students became the University’s newest alumni.
Students who received the honor summa cum laude graduated with a cumulative grade point average (GPA ) of at least 3.7; students who received the honor of magna cum laude graduated with a GPA of at least 3.50; and students who received the honor of cum laude graduated with a GPA of at least 3.3.
The following residents were among the students who received their undergraduate or graduate degrees. Note that many students have received multiple degrees:
Jenna P. Pereg of Woodbury received a BA in Communication Studies
Matthew D. Dejulio of Plainview received a BS in Sociology cum laude
Michelle A. Geffen of Woodbury received a BA in Psychology

Emily Hillel, who is majoring in Biology and from Plainview was one of 59 SUNY Oneonta undergraduate students honored as recipients of the college’s 2012-2013 Best and Brightest awards at the college’s annual Students of Distinction reception on May 8.
The awards recognize students who demonstrate outstanding academic engagement, co-curricular engagement, and service to the college and/or local community. Students are nominated for the awards each semester by faculty and staff.
Kristen D’Elia, a resident of Plainview and a member of the class of 2015, has been named to the Dean’s List at Providence College for the Spring 2013 semester. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must achieve at least a 3.55 grade point average with a minimum of 12 credits.
Providence College is the only college or university in the United States administered by the Dominican Friars. The Catholic, liberal arts college has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 3,900 students and offers degrees in 49 academic majors. Providence College has consistently been ranked among the top five regional universities in the north according to U.S. News’ America’s Best Colleges.
