Coram Woman Dies After Hit-and-run

A 56-year-old Coram woman has died three weeks after she was struck by a Mount Sinai hit-and-run driver who is still being sought by Suffolk County police, authorities said.

Karen Benjamin was pronounced dead Wednesday at Stony Brook University Hospital, where she had been admitted while unconscious from injuries on Sunday, June 23.

Police said Benjamin was jogging when she was struck by a vehicle on Canal Road just west of Mount Sinai/Coram Road.

The driver fled in a light-colored 2000 to 2003 BMW sedan or station wagon with front and passenger side damage.

Vehicular Crimes Unit detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information on this case to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
