Jackel, Richard, a resident of Farmingdale, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital on July 17. The son of Golda (Lienwohl) and Harry Jackel, Richard was born Oct. 29, 1942, at the Royal Hospital, Bronx. A graduate of City College, he also earned a Master’s Degree from Hofstra University. A Navy veteran, Richard served in Vietnam on the U.S.S. Benewah on the Mekong River. After serving in the military, Richard was employed as a middle school science teacher in Bedford Styvesant and in Flushing. He changed careers in the 1980s and worked for 25 years as an investment broker. Richard is survived by his wife Linda,, four children: Alison Jackel Fienman (Paul) of Plainview, Christine Judd Rogers (Peter) of North Babylon, Daniel Judd (Elizabeth) of Williamsburg, VA, and Patricia Judd McGee (Kevin) of Highland Mills, NY; nine grandchildren: Max and Brooke Fienman, Jake and Jenny Rogers, Cameron and Kelsey Judd, and Sean, Emily, and Liam McGee; and his sister-in-law Judith Krum (husband Randall) of Sanford, Florida. Richard was predeceased by his parents and his sister Joyce Wentling. Richard was a story-teller, a long-time Yankees fan, having worked in Yankee Stadium as a youth, and a saltwater fisherman. He loved Lake George, and was proud of his gift to his grandchildren and family of their annual vacation on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
