Title Swap With The Librarians
Residents are invited to the next meeting of the Garden City Public Library’s reader’s advisory series “Title Swap with the Librarians” from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the lower level of the library. Title Swap is a series of programs that gives patrons and librarians the opportunity to share new book titles and briefly discuss them. If you would like, you may bring your lunch and beverages will be served. Whether you are looking to discover a new author to read or to find your next book club pick, come to the next Title Swap with the librarians. Remember to bring your own favorite titles to share with the group. This program is open to all adult Garden City Public Library cardholders. Registration is not necessary. For those who are unable to attend the Title Swap session, a list of the discussed titles will be found at the reference desk the week after the program takes place.

Monthly Cancer Support Group
Franklin Hospital’s cancer support group meets in the former coffee shop at North Shore LIJ Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream. (Please note the new location for 2013.) The group regularly meets the first Monday of every month from 2 to 4 p.m. It is open to all cancer survivors, including family members and is ideal for people who need someone to talk to about the illness. Discussions include new medicines and treatments, advice on how to cope and also provides emotional support. Free Breast Cancer Support Groups
The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program is offering new support groups. There is no cost for any group; however pre-registration is required. Additional groups are formed upon request, including groups for men with breast cancer and family members. All groups meet at Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. •Support group for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
•Support group for women post treatment will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
•Support group for young women with breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
•Support group for women with metastatic breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
•A telephone support group for women with breast cancer will be held weekly for eight weeks from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Cultural And Recreational Affairs Board Of Commissioners meets on the first Tuesday of each month (except July and August) at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Senior Center.
Architectural Design Review Board meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 8 p.m. at Village Hall.
Zoning Board Of Appeals meets at 7:30 p.m. at the village hall on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
Planning Commission meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the village hall.
Environmental Advisory Board meets at 8 p.m. at the village hall on the last Wednesday (except July and August) of each month.
Traffic Commission meets on the third Thursday (except July and August) of each month at 8 p.m. at the village hall.

Clutterers Anonymous
Clutterers Anonymous (CLA), a 12-step self-help group, offers help and support to those who have clutter problems in their homes or workplace. Meets every Thursday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 265 Asbury Ave., in Westbury. There are no dues or fees. Summer Food Drive
The Garden City Public Library, in cooperation with Long Island Cares Inc. / The Harry Chapin Food Bank, is sponsoring a summer food drive. There is a collection box in the lobby entrance at the library for the public to contribute non-perishable items. The collection takes place through August 29. Long Island Cares, Inc. and the Garden City Library appreciate the generosity of residents to the previous food drives held each summer.
Canned goods, dry goods, and snack foods can be contributed. Personal care items, baby care products, laundry detergent, cleaning products, and paper products are also among the most needed items. The donations collected are being distributed to food pantries, senior and children’s day care centers, soup kitchens and shelters on Long Island. Please bring a non-perishable donation on your next visit to the library.
