The Rotary Club of Oyster Bay presented the annual Tom Reardon Scholarship of $1,500 to Caroline Dupré, a St. Dominic High School graduate. Rotary co-presidents Judy Wasilchuk and Bev Zembko made the presentation at the Rotary luncheon at Jack Halyard’s on Wednesday, June 12.
Rotarian Thomas Reardon, a founder of the Oyster Festival, and died on Oct. 21, 2009 after a life of service to the community. He volunteered with many of Oyster Bay’s not for profit groups including the Oyster Bay Fire Co. No. 1; Rotary; and on Youth & Family Counseling Agency of Oyster Bay-East Norwich’s board. At his death donations were made to the Oyster Bay Charitable Fund in memory of Tom.
Rotary established the Tom Reardon Scholarship for a graduating high school student. “Caroline, as a high school student, has lived up to the Rotary ideals,” said Zembko.
Caroline’s mother Meleen Dupré said, “Thank you again for honoring our daughter Caroline, and inviting us to your lunch. It is greatly appreciated!” Caroline will attend college in Rhode Island.
