SENTENCED: Private Bradley Manning, the whistleblower who leaked more than 700,000 military documents and state department cables to WikiLeaks, was sentenced to 35 years in prison on Aug. 21, 2013 by a military judge presiding over his leak case. Manning, who enlisted in 2007 and had been deployed to Iraq as an intelligence analyst in 2009, released cockpit gun-sight footage, dubbed “Collateral Murder,” of U.S. Apache helicopters killing a dozen unarmed civilians and two Reuters photojournalists in Iraq in 2007. Manning said in a statement through his attorney after his sentencing that he would be seeking hormone therapy treatment while in prison. The 25-year-old will now be known as Chelsea Manning.
