Ages’ Fourth Annual “Savvy Senior Day” Rolling Out Royal Carpet
As nominations for Long Island’s “Savvy Senior” remain underway through Saturday, August 31, Long Islanders are invited to take part in celebrating these remarkable seniors at the Fourth Annual “Savvy Senior Day” on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the the Holiday Inn at 215 Sunnyside Blvd. in Plainview from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Presented around Grandparents Day each year by Long Island senior advocacy and resource group, the Association of Generational Experts for Seniors (AGES), this senior celebratory event will feature a variety of food, entertainment and a chance at several raffle prizes donated by a various local businesses and organizations. Sponsorships for products and services are still being accepted; anyone interested can contact 347-886-2574. The event will recognize all senior nominees with certificates of appreciation and will crown Long Island’s 2013 Savvy Senior King and Queen, who will receive commemorative plaques and gift certificates for professional studio portraits, compliments of Bradford Renaissance Portraits. Presenting a public forum where seniors can deservingly shine, AGES’ Savvy Senior Day celebrates Long Island seniors and extends a show of appreciation for the contributions they have made and continue to make within the Long Island region. Attendance is free for nominated seniors and their families.

Oyster Bay Arts Festival
There will be something for everyone as local artists, musicians, performers, and collectors line Audrey Avenue, South Street and East Main Street in the upcoming two-day Oyster Bay Arts Festival. The festivities begin with a Saturday evening art stroll through Oyster Bay from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitors will soak in the treasures of a talented community of artists, and collectors transforming downtown sidewalks into an outdoor gallery. Live music and an outdoor marketplace will complement the artistic experience. Feed your mind and then feed your appetite – call ahead to make dinner reservations at our many fine eateries. For events targeted to children, check the Bay Time Activities website (www.baytimeactivities.com), a parent’s guide to children’s activities in Oyster Bay-East Norwich, for Saturday evening “drop-off” programs allowing parents to stroll and dine while kids have their own artistic fun. The Family Arts Festival takes place on Sunday, September 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This hands-on festival will feature children’s crafts, knitting, pottery, cooking, live music, story telling, dance, martial arts, artist demonstrations, face painting, water sports activities, food, drinks, treats and an artist marketplace. This festival is free of charge and open to the public, however, some activities will include a fee.

Miscarriage Support Group
A safe, confidential, supportive environment in which to talk about what you have been through, your reactions and feelings, and how to move forward. You are not alone! Free Veterinary Lectures
Once a month through December, Long Island Cat Fanciers sponsors free lectures given by top local veterinarians on topics relevant to dog and cat owners. All members of the public are welcome to attend. Non-Profit Support Group: Clutterers Anonymous (CLA)
A 12-step self-help group, offers help and support to those who have clutter problems in their homes or workplace. Meets at the following locations: Thursdays, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 265 Asbury Ave, Westbury first and third Friday, 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the School of the Community Reformed Church, 90 Plandome Rd, Manhasset.
