East Meadow orients new hires
Before students arrived, 26 new teachers got to warm the seats at East Meadow school district’s orientation for the 2013-2014 school year. They even got to ride a school bus, on an official tour of the district.
Administrators and staff led a forum charged with positive energy at theLeon J. Campo Salisbury Center. The new staff got a chance to get to know each other as well as the “old hands” who helped familiarize the recruits with district policies and procedures.
During his opening remarks, Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and Administration Anthony Russo noted how pleased were that the new teachers would be applying their talents in East Meadow.
“We’re confident that each of you will be a valuable contributor to the fine tradition of student-centered education in East Meadow,” he said.
Superintendent of Schools Louis R. DeAngelo encouraged the teachers to reach out for support when needed and wished them great success. “A teacher needs to have the uncanny ability to balance somewhat dichotomous purposes: it’s a position requiring toughness and tenderness, firmness and fairness, fortitude and gratitude, and passion and compassion,” he said. “We believe that the ability to achieve this balance is what makes a good teacher.”
