The Cantiague Park Senior Men’s Golf League had its 10th tournament on Sept. 5, with 35 golfers. Eight of the golfers scored under 40, including a brilliant 32 by Charlie Hong.  Low overall score was won by Bruce Danen. Joe Iavaroni scored a 43, his personal best so far and easily won low overall net.

2nd Low Flight (B) –  John Bosco  (27) won tie breaker with Kent Schreiber

 

The Club Champion for 2013 is Charlie Hong (26). Runners up are Dave Malle (20), John Bosco (20), and Bob Evans (19). Prizes for winning overall club Champ will be 1st $50; 2nd $40; 3rd $30; 4th $20. Second and third prizes are added together since there is a tie and split between Bosco and Malle.

 

The next tournament will be a scramble tournament on Thursday, Sept. 19. Rain date for golf will be Sept. 20. The luncheon will go on as scheduled. The annual luncheon and awarding of prizes will be at Domenico’s Restaurant from noon to 2 p.m. Domenico’s is located in the King Kullen Shopping Center, 3270-A Hempstead Turnpike. Match Play Championship continues with the finals being played on Sept. 19. Prizes for match play are 1st $80; 2nd $40; 3rd $20. The handicap you had at beginning of match play remains static for the tournament. The changes in your handicap for purposes of regular prizes may change from week-to-week.

 

Golfers advancing: Rudi Pekarek (12) will play Mike Guerriero (13) for Club Championship. Consolation round is between Geoff Tripp (12) and Ted Marukawa (12)

 

Competition on the nine-hole course is divided into two divisions. Flight A is for players with a handicap of 13 or lower. Flight B is for players with a handicap of 14 or more.  The league is a 100 percent handicap league. Any man 55 years or older is eligible for membership.

There are numerous opportunities for cash prizes for individual achievement utilizing your handicap in every tournament.
