The massive manhunt for the gunman suspected in a fatal shooting inside an East Garden City office building last week has ended after authorities found the man’s body in the Hudson River Monday, Nassau County police said.
Investigators positively identified 63-year-old Sang Ho Kim’s body through fingerprint analysis, but did not release a cause of death.
The homicide investigation will remain open, but police are not searching for any other suspects, authorities said.
The Sept. 25 shooting at Savenergy on South Street sent shockwaves through Garden City and raised fears that a gunman had fired bullets inside nearby Roosevelt Field Mall. But police quickly established that the burst of violence was sparked by a disagreement between Kim and John Choi, the firm’s owner.
Choi survived the shooting but one if his employees, 25-year-old Zachariah Yong Jae Shin of Whitestone, Queens, did not. Earlier this year, Kim had performed a renovation job at Shin’s family apartment in Queens but did “a lousy job,” David Lee, who co-founded The Korean American Public Affairs Committee with Choi, told the Press last week.
The manhunt quickly spread to upstate New York where Kim’s white Honda Pilot was discovered near a wooded area in Putnam County later that day.
Police discovered Kim’s body after an extensive search of Hudson Highlands Park and the surrounding waterways.
The manhunt included more than a dozen agencies including the FBI.
