A man was convicted Tuesday of gunning down a 20-year-old victim to death in Hempstead last year in what authorities described as a revenge killing.
A Nassau County jury found Diquan McClough guilty of second-degree and criminal possession of a weapon.
Prosecutors said that the 21-year-old gunman fired six shots from a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun at Quavis Ford in front of the victim’s apartment house on Terrace Avenue at 4:20 p.m. on Dec. 8, 2012.
Ford was hit by three of the bullets, twice in the back and once in the left leg. He was pronounced dead the following day.
Authorities said McClough shot Ford because the gunman thought the victim had been involved in a previous shooting of McClough’s friend. B oth the gunman and the victim were from Hempstead.
McClough fled the scene but was apprehended the following month in Augusta, Ga.
He faces up to 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced Nov. 13.
