Plein Air at OBHS
The Oyster Bay Historical Society will exhibit paintings from the Plein Air Competition held at Planting Fields Arboretum Historic State Park now through Oct. 6, at the Angela Koenig Center, 20 Summit Street, Oyster Bay. For information call 922-5032.
Tilles Center Exhibits
Now through to Oct. 15, Long Island Fringe Festival brings their annual art exhibit to Tilles Center Patrons Lounge at C.W. Post LIU campus. The theme of the exhibit is the art of volunteering. It focuses on the artist’s passion, whatever it may be; the artist’s dreams and desires for a better future; and the hope for a loving planet. Also on view is the Art Under Glass area of Tilles Center is Sea Change, an underwater installation by Sally Shore and Barbara Karyo in the Atrium at the Tilles Center for Performing Arts.

Fall Family Festival Weekend
The Fall Family Festival Weekend takes place on Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. to 5 pm., rain or shine. Halloween trick or treat and costume parade, live music with the Latham Road Band, gigantic garden games, pumpkins for sale, pony rides, pumpkin decorating station, puppet shows, potato sack races, watercolor demonstrations, bounce house, food and beer tastings of autumn, dahlia garden open and Coe Hall Open. Save GC Hospital Rally
There will be a rally at St. Gertrude’s Church in Bayville to Save Glen Cove Hospital on Sunday, Oct. 6 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Invitations are going out on Face Book and fliers are being posted for people to attend the rally (rain or shine) to Save Glen Cove Hospital. The organizers are saying, “Join us in the parking lot for a rally to save our hospital! Together, we can keep the pressure on to preserve the health of our community and its people! “If it rains, the rally will move into the Parish Center.” Saint Gertrude’s Parish Center is located at 28 School Street, Bayville. The church is located on Bayville Avenue and School Street.

Preserving Family Scrapbooks
The Oyster Bay Historical Society’s Archivist/Librarian Nicole Menchise will discuss best practices for preserving fragile family scrapbooks during the Society’s Preservation Workshop on, Oct. 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Koenig Research Center, 20 Summit Street. Free to members of the OBHS (with special membership opportunities to those in the 11771 zip code), $15 for non-members. Bring a scrapbook with them to discuss their individual challenges. The Oyster Festival will celebrate its 30 years of the annual family friendly event with Fireworks by Grucci along with a musical performance by Robbie Rosen, of American Idol fame.

Lecture at Bailey’s
The Locust Valley Library presents an evening with Marc Wortman at Bailey Arboretum on Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. He is the author of The Millionaires’ Unit, the historic tale of a group of young Yalies who started the first US Naval Air Reserve Unit in 1916 on Peacock Point, Lattington. Boys & Girls Club Gala
The Oyster Bay-East Norwich Boys & Girls Club will hold their annual gala fundraising party at Oheka on Thursday, Oct. 24. “The galas have been held for several years at the Metropolitan in Glen Cove, and we decided it was time to do something new,” said Sharon Sliva, executive director. Fields to celebrate the restoration of Mai Coe’s 1913 Steinway Grand Piano at 7 p.m. at Coe Hall. The cost is $20 non-member. Come to Planting / free for members / no parking fee. Nelson DeMille Lecture
Raynham Hall Museum presents the first of its lecture series “Spymasters: The uses of Intelligence in a Dangerous World.” The series was inspired by the museum’s identity as the home of a central member of George Washington’s Culper Spy Ring, a forerunner of today’s C.I.A. first speaker is best-selling novelist Nelson DeMille. He will be speaking on Nov. 17, with a time and place to be announced.
Lyric Opera
The Friends of the Locust Valley Library host the Capitol Heights Lyric Opera company who will perform arias and duets from Rossini’s masterpieces The Barber of Seville and Carmen. Co-sponsored by the Town of Oyster Bay, on Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. Light refreshments and concert in the Community Room.
Food Pantry
The North Shore Assembly of God, 84 Orchard St, Oyster Bay is operating a new food pantry for the community. It is meant to supplement the growing needs of the community.
