Bus Aide Fractured Disabled Student’s Arm, Cops Say

A bus aide was arrested Wednesday after allegedly fracturing a developmentally disabled student’s arm earlier this week aboard a bus in Commack, Suffolk County police said.

Richard Mason of Brentwood was charged with assault and acting in a manner to injure a child. The 39-year-old will be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip.

The incident occurred on Sept. 30 at 4 p.m., police said. Mason, a bus aide for Acme Bus Corp., allegedly grabbed the boy’s arm and twisted it behind his back in an apparent attempt to discipline the North Ridge Elementary School student, causing it to fracture, police said.

An Acme Bus Corp. official wasn’t immediately available to comment.
