Kicking Up The Funds

Two local karate academies recently teamed up to raise money for a charitable organization, and had tremendous success. On Sept. 7, Oyster Bay Family Karate with the help of The Karate Academy of Bethpage  raised over $10,000 for Saint Judes.

“It was such an amazing day, both schools participated in karate tournaments and fun games,” says Sensei Bobby Rekha, owner of Oyster Bay Family Karate, who helped organize the event with Sensei Larry Batista.

The morning started with two kickboxing classes. Members came in to take a class with a donation. Shortly after, the kids played in the bouncy houses in the front and rear of the facility. There was lots of food, games, and prizes to be won. A lot of members, kids and families came to show their support.

Additionally, there was  a charity karate tournament between the kids of Oyster Bay Family Karate and The Karate Academy of Bethpage.

“Some took first place in sparring, forms and games, but all were winners,” says Rekha.
