Platform Tennis Lessons For The Beginner
The recreation department is happy to announce platform tennis lessons for the beginner player at the Community Park platform tennis courts. All beginner residents are invited to sign up and learn the basics of platform tennis. Classes will be taught by certified platform tennis instructor Sue Tarzian. The hour-long lesson (11 a.m.– noon) will be conducted for six weeks beginning Tuesday, Oct. 22 and costs $120. Women’s Learn And Play Paddle Clinic
A learn and play platform tennis (paddle) clinic will take place at Community Park’s tennis facility on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Oct. 16. This seven-week course offers instruction and play for the beginner player. The cost of this program is $175.
Dance Conservatory Classes Begin
The recreation dance conservatory classes have begun. Classes are available for children ages 3 – 18 who are village residents. There are limited openings left in our classes so don’t wait. Youth Tennis Lessons At Community Park Tennis Center
Classes have begun and registration is ongoing for children’s tennis. Classes are available for both beginner and advanced players ages 4–18 and are open to anyone who is a village resident. Fall Session Mad Science Classes
The recreation and parks department will offer Mad Science classes for village children this fall at St. Paul’s Senior Center. This six-week program will take place at St. Paul’s Senior Center beginning the week of Oct. 28. Participants will attend a different workshop each week with topics like “Slime Time” and “Super Sticky Stuff”. Participants will have a great time with science in a fun setting.
Classes will be offered as follows:
For Grades K to 3:
Mondays at 4 p.m.
Tuesdays at 4 p.m.
Fridays at 4 p.m.
For Grades 3 to 5:
Wednesdays at 4 p.m.

After School Program – Bricks4kidz
The Bricks4Kidz Lego program was a big hit this summer so the recreation office is sponsoring it again as an after school program this fall. Bricks 4 Kidz teachers are trained to lead a discussion related to that day’s model, using materials designed by educators to teach concepts across a variety of subject areas. Kids will learn about everything from gears, torque and friction, to geography, space exploration, weather and more. Working with a partner, kids experience the hands-on fun of model building, from concept to completion. All models are designed by Bricks 4 Kidz model designers, so you won’t find them on the shelves of your local toy store.
This program is open to any child in grades k–3 that is a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The one-hour class will run for six weeks at a cost of $120, payable by check only to Franchise Innovations for You, LLC. Classes will be held at St. Paul’s beginning the week of Oct. 28 according to the following schedule:

Bricks4kidz Preschool Program
Preschoolers, ages 4–5 who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City are invited to join the new Bricks4Kidz program that uses Duplo blocks to make engaging models based on the ABC’s. Each class in this six-week program is 45 minutes in length and will use the blocks to build a simple model each week based the weekly letter of the alphabet. Classes will be held at St. Paul’s according to the following schedule:
Tuesdays at 1 p.m. or Thursdays at 1 p.m.
The cost of the session will be $120, payable by check only to Franchise Innovations for You, LLC. Please note: Your child must be 4 years old by the start of the class in order to participate.
Bricks4kidz Robotics Program For 3–5th Graders
The recreation department will also offer a rbotics program for third- through fifth-graders who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Using Legos, the participants collaborate with each other to learn mechanical design, construction and programming in a fun setting. The curriculum for this program was developed and taught by certified BRICKS4KIDZ instructors and engineers. Their instructors are winners of science competitions including 2nd place in a national robotics competition.
Classes will be held on Mondays at 5 p.m. in St. Paul’s Senior Center beginning Monday, Oct. 28.

Schools Out! Total Play Multi-Sports Camp
Garden City’s Department of Recreation and Parks has invited US Sports Institute back to run a multi-sport camp on Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 14. This camp will be held on St. Paul’s fields. Children will have the chance to play up to four different sports each day during School’s Out Total Play Multi-Sports Camps. This camp is open to children ages 5–12.
All activities incorporated into the Total Play Multi-Sports program allow children to develop coordination, accuracy, body control, and timing. Inspired by a fun and relaxed atmosphere, your child will have the opportunity to progress on the sports field. Activity, variety and enjoyment stand as key attributes to developing a healthy lifestyle.

Adult Tennis Lessons Announced
Registration for the fall session of of adult tennis lessons has now started. Classes are played at the Community Park Tennis Center. The 10-week, one-hour class will cost $249. Classes begin the week of Oct. 15.
The recreation department offers lessons for adults in all ability levels. In order to create sessions geared to the needs of residents, the recreation department is asking any adult who is a resident in the Inc. Village of Garden City and is interested in tennis lessons to fill out a form by visiting the recreation and parks office at 108 Rockaway Ave. or www.gardencityrecreation.org. Please follow the directions listed.
-Choose the days and times you are available to play.
-Self rate your tennis ability.
-Either drop off or mail your application with a check for $249 made payable to the Inc. Village of Garden City to the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave. by Oct. 9.
Classes will then be made by grouping people of similar abilities according to the dates they are available. Your check will not be cashed until you are entered in a class.
Adult Ultimate Workout Tennis Drill Program
The recreation and parks department also offer a tennis workout program that drills experienced tennis players. This 1 ½ hour class is available on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. at a cost of $249. Class will begin on Oct. 13. To register, please visit the recreation office at 108 Rockaway Ave.
