Farmingdale High School art teacher Cara Palermo, health teacher Pete Cerrone, National Art Honor Society advisor Terry McEnery, Students Against Destructive Decisions advisor Susan Byrns and early childhood advisor Jody Haniquet, recruited many students to volunteer at Marjorie Post Park on Sunday Sept. 22, with “Massapequa Stands Up to Bullying” for a day filled with fun activities.
The students were busy painting faces of local children and helping them with anti bullying coloring pages. Students assisted FEMCHO, a program which encourages women of all ages to be healthy, confident, and strong, with a variety of arts and crafts. They also helped with fun sensory activities at the craft table sponsored by Farmingdale Macaroni Kid, an online event publication for Massapequa and Farmingdale.
Farmingdale High School volunteers also encouraged visitors to take the pledge to “be an upstander, not a bystander”, gave out coupons and prizes for participants, distributed bracelets and programs, and helped guests create a paper-chain.
The paper-chain is being displayed at the Farmingdale High School library. Kudos to these high school students who participated in this fun filled day and helped so many by raising awareness about the seriousness and negative results of bullying and how to prevent it.
