Not even the chilly, misty weather could stop community residents and shoppers from attending the Plainview-Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce’s second annual Craft & Gift Fair on the grounds of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library.
More than 65 vendors catered to hundreds of residents and shoppers who walked up and down the aisles shopping, looking and checking out the variety of goods, clothing and services that were offered for sale. Jewelry, clothing, cosmetics, pet accessories, plants, professional services, club memberships, cable services were all up for sale and enthusiastically purchased by residents and shoppers from other communities.
Bryan Trugman, chairman of the event, said the weather could not dampen the spirits of the vendors.
“The vendors were great—nothing could hold them back, not even the weather,” he said. “The shoppers were fantastic and shopped despite the weather. The Fair was a great success and we plan on making this an annual event. Next year we might even order sunshine.”
Unique to the Chamber’s Fair was the outstanding vocal performances by the High School A Capella groups Chuck Full of Notes and the Rolling Tones. Also performing were multiple duets from the High School’s Drama Cadet Club, belting out popular hits and Broadway show tunes. Emceeing the entertainment were DJs from the High School’s radio station, WPOB. Also providing technical assistance and lively music throughout the day were staff members from WBLI.
Sponsor Coliseum Kitchen provided fair goers with free coffee and hot chocolate to keep everyone warm while they shopped. The Chamber also provided free face-painting, sponsored by the Law Offices of Elan Wurtzel, P.C., to children of all ages, which brightened the day despite the gray weather. All over the Fair one could see colorful butterflies, tigers,and superheroes on the faces of beaming children.
While parents relaxed at the Plainview Massage Envy Spa booth with a five minute massage, their kids enjoyed the bouncy rides, the basket toss game and sand art.
Fairgoers indulged themselves and enjoyed munching on pickles, hot pretzels and scrumptious fried oreos, while the aroma of sausage & peppers wafted over the air.
Dogs of all shapes and sizes were out in force and thanks to Tasty Pet Treats, they also had yummy snacks to eat.

The Plainview Water District was also on hand Chamber’s fair. Chairman Joel Kessler and Commissioner Andrew Bader set up an information booth and met with residents to distribute water related pamphlets as well as to provide water conservation-themed coloring books to children in attendance.
The commissioners also educated residents as to where the community’s water supply comes from, how often it is tested and how it is delivered into homes and local businesses.
