Garden City residents, Lisa Arning and Susan MacDonald, are co-chairing the annual Interfaith Nutrition Network (The INN) Luncheon on Nov. 1, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at The Garden City Hotel. The goal of the luncheon is to raise awareness about issues of hunger and homelessness on Long Island and to support the services and care provided by The INN. Supermarket Fun Night

Maureen McGovern to Perform at Adelphi
Multi-Grammy-nominated singer Maureen McGovern, best known for the Oscar-winning classic “The Morning After,” will take you on a musical journey celebrating the songbook of the 1960s and 1970s featuring the music of Joni Mitchell, Jimmy Webb, Carole King and Bob Dylan, among others. According to the New York Times, McGovern is “blessed with a vocal technique second to none.” Tickets are now on sale for “Maureen McGovern: A Long and Winding Road: The Concert” on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. at the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center (AUPAC) Concert Hall on 1 South Ave. in Garden City. Masters Of Their Mediums
The Garden City Historical Society will hold its 7th Annual Professional Art Show, “Garden City in Art: a Mixed Media Exhibit,” at The Garden City Historical Society Museum, 109 Eleventh St. from Nov. 3-10, 2013. An artists reception takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, followed by exhibit hours on Tuesday, Nov. 5 (Election Day), from 11 a.m-2 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 9 and 10, 1 to 3 p.m. The exhibit is free.
Participating local artists this year include Suzie Alvey, Doug Anderson, Jock Anderson, Mary Jane Caldwell, Susana Eques Cerruti, Angela Chiodo, Noel Darvie, Peter Langan, George Mamos, Marianne Reamer, John H.W. Rhein III and Barbara Rocco. They will display artworks in sculptures, digital photography, pastels, pen and ink watercolors, ink tempera, ink gouache and oils. Through Nov. 10.

Art Demonstration
The Suburban Art League of Long Island will be holding its monthly demo on at the Syosset-Woodbury Community Center in the Syosset-Woodbury park on 7800 Jericho Tpk. in Woodbury, across from the Fox Hollow. Donna Moraff will come in and demonstrate a watercolor-pastel painting. All are invited to enjoy an evening of art from 8 -10 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Book Discussion
Two of Adriana Trigiani’s Big Stone Gap novels, Big Stone Gap and Big Cherry Holler will be the selections for The Friends of The Garden City Public Library book discussion to be held on at 10 a.m. Gloria Weinrich will moderate this book discussion that will take place in the library’s small meeting room on the Lower Level and is limited to 20 participants. No registration is necessary. Copies of the book are available at the reference desk in the library. Ave Maria Mulligan, a 35-year-old self-proclaimed spinster who lives in the small town Big Stone Gap, discovers a skeleton in her family’s formerly tidy closet that completely unravels her quiet, conventional life. In Big Stone Gap, Ave Maria is suddenly fielding marriage proposals and planning the trip of a lifetime to Italy. In Big Cherry Holler, her story continues eight years later when her marriage is at a crossroads and she is faced with the decision of a lifetime. Pick Those Pumpkins
Daily through Halloween, Oct. 31, a field of orange will cover the grounds of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Central Nassau (UUCCN) at the corner of Nassau Boulevard and Stewart Avenue when pumpkins from a New Mexico Navajo reservation are delivered. The sale is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Homemade baked goods will also be available for purchase. Close to 6,000 pumpkins in various shapes and sizes as well as some variety pumpkins, gourds, and decorative corn are expected. Pumpkins grown in a dry climate tend to last longer than those grown in eastern United States. You are welcome to come to take pictures, wander through the pumpkin patch and purchase a pumpkin if you wish. Admission is free. This is a perfect time for teens to earn volunteer credits. Furniture Needed
The A.T.Stewart Exchange Consignment Shop at 109 Eleventh St. in Garden City is looking for furniture to add to its inventory. The shop can use cocktail tables, end tables, consoles, chairs of all types, dressers, dining room tables, breakfronts, servers, secretaries, mirrors, etc….it’s all in demand. If you have a particularly large piece, take a picture and show it to Maryann Caterino at the shop (516-746-8900). Consignees are paid 50 percent of the selling price. There is ample parking and the shop is conveniently located on the lower level of The Garden City Historical Society Museum. All proceeds from the A.T.Stewart Consignment Shop go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the Garden City Historical Society Museum, an original 1872 A.T.Stewart era Apostle Victorian structure.

Clutterers Anonymous (CLA), a 12-step self-help group, offers help and support to those who have clutter problems in their homes or workplace. Monthly Cancer Support Group
Franklin Hospital’s cancer support group meets in the former coffee shop at North Shore LIJ Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream. The group regularly meets the first Monday of every month from 2 to 4 p.m. It is open to all cancer survivors, including family members and is ideal for people who need someone to talk to about the illness. Discussions include new medicines and treatments, advice on how to cope and also provides emotional support. Free Breast Cancer Support Groups
The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program is offering new support groups. There is no cost for any group; however pre-registration is required. Additional groups are formed upon request, including groups for men with breast cancer and family members. All groups meet at Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. •Support group for women with metastatic breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Volunteers Sought For Breast Cancer Program
If you’ve had breast cancer and want to pay it forward become a hotline volunteer. Women and men who are breast cancer survivors and others who are concerned about breast health issues can become volunteers at the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program in Garden City. Volunteers can help by doing fundraising and publicity, as well as by answering hotline calls. Hotline volunteers provide emotional support, information and referral services to callers with breast health concerns. Although the program is housed on Long Island, hotline services and telephone counseling are available to callers throughout New York State.
