Zoning Board Meeting

The Farmingdale Zoning Board of Appeals will hold its next meeting on Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. at Village Hall on 361 Main St.

Gingerbread House Contest

The first ever Long Island gingerbread house contest is coming to the Chocolate Duck, at 310 Main St. in Farmingdale, on Nov. 16. Anyone interested in registering in the contest has until Nov. 1 to sign up. The judging will take place from 9 a.m. to noon and will be open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. 

 

PTA Vendor Craft Fair

The Farmingdale High School PTA is hosting its 2nd annual Vendor Craft Fair on Saturday Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Commons. The event features vendors from Avon, Pampered Chef, Origami Owl, Scentsy, Tupperware, as well as personalized Holiday Ornaments, jewelry, pocketbooks, hand-painted tiles, knit hats, and more.  All proceeds from this event support the PTA Scholarship Fund.

Historical Society Hosts Tribute to Vietnam Vets

Attention! All Vietnam Veterans…The Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society is hosting a Tribute to the Vietnam Veterans from the greater Farmingdale-Bethpage area on Sunday, November 17, 2013, at 2pm. at the Farmingdale Public Library, 116 Merritts Road, Farmingdale. It has been forty years since this conflict ended, and it is time your service is acknowledged. This program is co-sponsored by the Village of Farmingdale, and is free and open to the public. Blue Ribbon Run

The Town of Oyster Bay is hosting the Greater Long Island Running Club’s 2013 Blue Ribbon Run for Prostate Cancer at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 9:30 a.m. 

The race, held once a year, helps to raise awareness and funds to fight prostate cancer. 

In addition, this year’s event will also feature free on-site prostate cancer screenings for men ages 40 and older.

The Farmingdale Village Board of Trustees will hold its next work session on Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. at Village Hall on 361 Main St.

The Community Summit meeting will be held on Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Farmingdale Public Library. 

 

CCAF Presentation on Health Care

The Concerned Citizen’s Association of Farmingdale will be holding a presentation about the Affordable Care Act at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 21 at Allen Park, to help residents better understand the differences between the four health plan insurance options offered by New York State. 

 

“The Spirt & The Modern” Exhibit

On Thursday, Nov. 21, the Grumman Gallery in Bethpage will host “The Spirit & The Modern,” an exhibit from the internationally-acclaimed artist Giovanni DeCunto. The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. To schedule an appointment call Michelle Chorney at 917-387-7277.

 

Saturday, November 23

 

Holiday Parade

Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Holiday Parade on Saturday, Nov. 23, at noon. The parade will begin at Northside Elementary school and features the Farmingdale Public School Marching Band, Daler Kickline, and Hardscrabble Girl Scouts in holiday costume. Santa will also be handing out candy canes and saying hello to all the boys and girls at the village green. We will also be collecting new unwrapped toys for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation that day.  Farmingdale Village Hall is an official toy drop location for the foundation.  A collection box is also located at Ellsworth W. Allen Town Park and other Town of Oyster Bay facilities.

 

1863 Thanksgiving Holiday Celebration

On Saturday, Nov. 23 and Sunday, Nov. 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Old Bethpage Village restoration will provide an old-fashioned Thanksgiving including decorated pumpkin pies baked in a beehive oven, and turkey roasted over an open fire. Each afternoon, Traditional Fiddle music will be played, and children’s stories will be read several times each day. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for children (ages 5 – 12), seniors and volunteer firefighters. For more information, please call 516-572-8401.

Village Board of Trustees Meeting

The Farmingdale Village Board of Trustees will hold its next public meeting on Dec. 2, at 8 p.m. at Village Hall on 361 Main St. 

 

Joe Belisi Day 

On Dec. 2, the Village of Farmingdale will commemorate the career of Nassau County legislator Joe Belisi with a special day in his honor.

Tree Lighting

The annual lighting of the tricentennial tree will be held on the village green at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, with a rain date on Dec. 5.  Refreshments are immediately following in Village Hall, sponsored by the Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society.

Math Workshop [3rd-5th]

Parents of students [grades 3 – 5] enrolled in the Farmingdale School District are invited to attend a workshop at the Howitt Middle School Library, providing an in-depth look at the mathematics curriculum that is being taught to students throughout the 2013-2014 school year.

Chamber’s Holiday Party

The Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Holiday Party on Thursday, Dec. 5, at Carlyle on the Green at 5:30 p.m. This year, the Chamber will celebrate silver anniversary members, in honor of those with 25 years in Farmingdale.

Chinese Auction

Help for people, a non-profit organization in Farmingdale, will be holding a Chinese auction on Friday Dec. 6, from 6:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., at Firemen’s Memorial Park in Lindenhurst. Admission is $8 in advance, or $10 at the door, and includes one sheet of 25 raffle tickets. Raffle prizes include: Disney Park Hopper Passes, Basket of Cheer, Restaurant Gift Certificates, Themed Baskets and much more. There will also be door prizes and a 50/50 raffle. 

 

Holiday Special at FUMC

Farmingdale United Methodist Church, located at 407 Main Street, will present two performances of the advent opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors” on Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7, 2013. The hour-long opera, by Gian-Carlo Menotti, will be performed in English by professional singers, dancers and chorus under the direction of David Majoros, D.M.A., Music Director of FUMC. It’s charming story and colorful numbers make it perfect for children.

Friday evening’s performance begins at 7:30pm and the Saturday matinee at 4:00pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and can be reserved by calling the church office at 516 694-3424.
