Ffoure Pounds Sterling
Ffoure Pounds Sterling, an exhibit at the Oyster Bay Historical Society’s Koenig Center, is open now through Jan. 19, 2014. It is a selection of documents, correspondence, maps, and manuscripts from the 17th through the 20th centuries, many of which have never been previously exhibited. View the 1653 First Purchase agreement with the Matinecocks, preserved in the Office of the Town Clerk in Oyster Bay, as well as the 1661 agreement granting Henry Townsend permission to build his mill at Mill Pond. Menorah Lighting
Stan Spiegelman of the Oyster Bay Civic Association is chairing the annual Menorah Lighting at the Derby-Hall Bandstand on Nov. 22 at 5:30 p.m. Stan said OB Town Councilwoman Michel Johnson will be there; Bagel Boss is providing the Hannukah sweets; and Oyster Bay Jewish Center Rabbi Marvin Demant will be officiating at the event. You can count of songs by the young people of the OBJC.
Music at the Mansion
Back by popular demand, the Brasil Guitar duo will perform at Coe Hall at 6 p.m. at Planting Fields as part of their new Music at the Mansion Concert Series. Tickets are $20 to non-members; free to members and there is no parking fee. Their innovative program features a seamless blend of traditional and Brazilian works, resulting in a full global touring schedule and a growing catalogue of critically acclaimed recordings. A Night With Steven Colucci
Friends of the Bay invites you to a night with artist Steven Colucci on Friday evening, Nov. 22 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at BMW of Oyster Bay, 145 Pine Hollow Road. The first 100 guests will receive a special gift. A portion of the sales of each painting and vehicle will go to FOB. The refreshments will be provided by Rothmann’s. DBE Illustrated Lecture
Victoria Crosby visits the Oyster Bay Historical Society’s Angela Koenig Center at 20 Summit Street on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. for a slide and lecture presentation on the history of the Daughters of the British Empire (DBE). Crosby, DBE regent, will read poems from her collection BritCentric. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public. Holiday Sharing Program
The Community Social Action Committee Holiday Sharing Program offers food certificates or food baskets to needy families and individuals living in the OB-EN community through community support, in an inter-religious community effort working with local agencies, churches and schools to identify those in need. Co-chair Carol Daub said, “The number of people needing assistance in our affluent community is real and very disturbing. There are over 100 families and over 50 individuals who are in dire need of help. I just got a request for a family where both parent just lost their jobs: they have no income, no insurance, nothing. The program in this small community in our zip code area, is helped confidentially.” Nonperishable food items and turkeys will be accepted at the Food Drive, at the First Presbyterian Church on East Main Street in Oyster Bay, on Monday, Nov. 25 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Nov. 26 from 9 a.m. to noon. All turkeys must be delivered frozen on Nov. 26, before noon. Mail donations to: C.S.A.C. Holiday Sharing Program, Box 231, Oyster Bay, New York 11771. All donations will be used to the purchase food certificates. Let us not fail those less fortunate than ourselves, said Carol and Randy Daub, co-chairs.

Small Business Saturday
The Oyster Bay-East Norwich Chamber of Commerce invites residents to take part in a nationwide rally to get people to shop in small downtown businesses, called Small Business Saturday, Nov. 30. The chamber is encouraging the 3/50 Project, a nationwide program on the benefits of shopping truly local, where more that half the funds remain with the local economy. Just think, if residents did that, spent $50 monthly, in three stores they loved but that are gone forever, like The Country Lady, the Book Mark and the Casual Gent, they might still be here in the hamlet.

Planting Fields Foundation’s centennial celebration, Deck the Halls, takes place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Coe Hall. Cocktail buffet, live music by Bob Merrill’s Band, silent auction and live ice sculpture carving will be part of this special evening to celebrate the centennial of Planting Fields (1913-2013). Christmas with the Roosevelts
Sagamore Hill National Historic Site hosts Christmas with the Roosevelts at Sagamore Hill on Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities will include holiday music performed by Larry Moser and Mary Nagin, Christmas carols sung by the quartet Close Enough, and James Foote, TR impersonator will talk of how the Roosevelts celebrated Christmas at Sagamore Hill and in the White House. Plus: holiday arts and crafts activities for children of all ages. Complimentary hot cocoa and cider will be provided by the Friends of Sagamore Hill. The Visitor Center bookstore offers 15 percent off on Dec. 7 and 8. Baroque Holiday Fest
The LI Baroque Ensemble performs on Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. in a Baroque Holiday Fest. The LIBE performs a repertoire of rarely heard and unpublished works along with period favorites. Tickets are: $20 general, $15 seniors, $10 students, and children admitted free with paying adult.

Tree Lighting With Santa
The 9th Annual Tree Lighting and Visit from Santa at Planting Fields takes place on Dec. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. Free Admission! Free Activities! No Parking Fee! The tree will be lit at 6 p.m. sharp! Delight in all kinds of holiday excitement at Planting Fields including caroling by the Barber Shop Quartet, Hot Cocoa and refreshments at the Hay Barn/Visitor Center, Coe Hall Mansion decorated for the season will be open for self-guided visits. Visit with Santa until 7:30 p.m. in Main Greenhouse Classroom.
Music at the Mansion
Come and enjoy a new concert series Vis-à-vis at 6 p.m. at Coe Hall Mansion. Tickets are $20 for non-members and free for members and there is no parking fee. Vis-à-vis is a duo made up of Eurasian musicians Nadia Khoda (Ukraine) and Nurmira Greenberg (Kyrgyzstan). These classically trained and award-winning musicians have backgrounds that extend to the rich folk traditions of The Silk Road, popular music and beyond. Their vibrant performances mix East with West, classical with rock, acoustic with electronic and familiar with groundbreaking. Food Pantry
The North Shore Assembly of God, 84 Orchard St, Oyster Bay is operating a new food pantry for the community. It is meant to supplement the growing needs of the community. It is open on Tuesdays during their prayer times: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. If you are in need of their service, please call Pastor Diane at 516-922-2547 and make an appointment to complete their screening process.
