At the recent Nassau Region PTA Spring Conference at the Melville Marriott, the Floral Park Memorial High School PTSA was recognized as the winner of the Nassau Region Growth in Membership — High School Award. The unit that achieves the highest membership growth in each region receives $50 from NYS PTA.
The PTSA received the “Focus on Fathers Award Certificate” as well. This is presented to every PTA unit in which 25 percent of the total membership are men. This award is offered with the hope that more men will join in PTA’s commitment to children.
The PTSA thanked the families, friends and faculty for their membership support. Beth Choisez is the Membership Chairperson.
The PTSA was also presented with the Nassau Region PTA Winifred Pratt Newsletter Award for the Knight Line, the PTSA newsletter. This award was established to honor Winifred Pratt’s 50 years of PTA service and to commemorate her devotion to PTA. The award recognizes achievement in promoting communication between school and home. Newsletter Chairperson Asya Blue accepted the award.
The PTSA announced that Teresa Brady-Kurtzke, PTSA co-president, received the Nassau Region PTA Unit Carolyn Fiori Leadership Award. This Award is named in honor of Carolyn Fiori, who was a Nassau District Director and NYS PTA President. Fiori exemplified the leadership qualities she sought to inspire in others. The award was established to recognize leadership qualities demonstrated by PTA members.
Brady-Kurtzke has been a lifelong resident of Floral Park and a graduate of Floral Park Memorial High School. She has been involved with PTA since her two daughters were in elementary school.
Brady-Kurtzke has served on every committee, either as a chairperson, co-chair or volunteer. She served on the John Lewis Childs PTA board in positions of increasing responsibility, culminating in the role of co-president for a two-year term.
The move to the junior/senior high school is a time when many parents take a break from PTA involvement, vowing to get involved at a later date. Not so in Teresa’s case. Brady-Kurtzke has remained active with PTA and currently serves at PTSA co-president at the same high school she graduated from.
Barbara Reynolds, president of the Sewanhaka Central Council of PTAs also received the Carolyn Fiori Leadership Award.
The PTSA will receive three free registrations to the upcoming fall conference as an added bonus.
