Ffoure Pounds Sterling Opens
Ffoure Pounds Sterling, an exhibit at the Oyster Bay Historical Society’s Koenig Center is open now through Jan. 19, 2014. It is a selection of documents, correspondence, maps, and manuscripts from the 17th through the 20th centuries, many of which have never been previously exhibited. View the 1653 First Purchase agreement with the Matinecocks, preserved in the Office of the Town Clerk in Oyster Bay, as well as the 1661 agreement granting Henry Townsend permission to build his mill at Mill Pond. Small Business Saturday
The Oyster Bay-East Norwich Chamber of Commerce invites residents to take part in a nationwide rally to get people to shop in small downtown businesses, called Small Business Saturday, Nov. 30. The chamber is encouraging the 3/50 Project, a nationwide program on the benefits of shopping truly local, where more that half the funds remain with the local economy. Just think, if residents did that, spent $50 monthly, in three stores they loved but that are gone forever, like The Country Lady, the Book Mark and the Casual Gent, they might still be here in the hamlet.

HPS Christmas Concert
The annual HPS Benefit Christmas Concert will be held at the Oyster Bay High School Performing Arts Center on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. The live stream will begin at 7 p.m. The second performance will be Sunday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. More information can be found on the Internet at hpsnetwork.org.

Christ Church hosts Opera Night on Dec. 7, at 8 p.m. It will be an evening of Arias, Art Songs and music for the holiday season. The suggested donation: $15.

Christmas With The Roosevelts
Sagamore Hill National Historic Site hosts Christmas with the Roosevelts at Sagamore Hill on Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities will include holiday music performed by Larry Moser and Mary Nagin, Christmas carols sung by the quartet Close Enough, and James Foote, TR enactor will talk of how the Roosevelts celebrated Christmas at Sagamore Hill and in the White House. Plus: holiday arts and crafts activities for children of all ages. Complimentary hot cocoa and cider will be provided by the Friends of Sagamore Hill. The Visitor Center bookstore offers 15 percent off on Dec. 7 and 8. Holiday Sing-A-Long
The Locust Valley Library, 170 Buckram Road, welcomes back Stan Wiest, pianist and entertainer presenting a sing-a-long of popular and old favorite songs, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. in the Community Room. Baroque Holiday Fest
The LI Baroque Ensemble performs on Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. in a Baroque Holiday Fest. The LIBE performs a repertoire of rarely heard and un-published works along with period favorites. Tickets are: $20 General, $15 Seniors, $10 Students, and children admitted free with paying adult.

Christmas Memories
The Locust Valley Historical Society is seeking toys from the 1960s or earlier for an exhibit they will curate at the library during the month of December, in a locked cabinet and listed with information about the owner. Please drop off toys at the circulation desk at the LV Library and be sure to receive a receipt advised Mary Jane Lippert, LVHS historian; Herbert W. Holiday Express
The OBEN Chamber of Commerce joins the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum in sponsoring the annual Holiday Express weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., a family friendly holiday celebration. Come enjoy free horse and carriage rides, decorated for the holidays; photo ops with Santa Claus on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m., bring your camera. [The tree lighting at the Derby-Hall bandstand will be on Saturday, too.] It’s a great chance to see the museum collection of artifacts and photographs; and an operating model railroad; have hot cider, candy canes and light refreshments; raffles and a 50/50. Gospel Concert and Reception
The Oyster Bay Historical Society and the Hood AME Zion Church will again hold their Christmas Concert at the church at 4 p.m., followed by a reception in the Koenig Center from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14. Save the date for this donation only event.

TRA Trip To Panama Canal
Laurence Pels, executive director of the Theodore Roosevelt Association announced that registration is now open for the TRA’s Panama Canal Centennial Tour. It is a specially designed custom tour to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Canal’s opening. The dates are March 6 to 13, 2014. If you arrive early you can see the Panama Carnival, March 3 and 4. There are rates for single and double occupancy and rates for children. It is a perfect balance of history, remembrance and touring; lectures, Panama Canal full transit and Panama Railway trip; current expansion viewing of the third set of locks; birding and nature excursion; commemorative ceremony with remarks; wreath laying ceremony with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and much more! Food Pantry
The North Shore Assembly of God, 84 Orchard St, Oyster Bay is operating a new food pantry for the community. It is meant to supplement the growing needs of the community. It is open on Tuesdays during their prayer times: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. If you are in need of their service, please call Pastor Diane at 516-922-2547 and make an appointment to complete their screening process.
