Ken Carnevale, MD, a resident of Bayville and partner at Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island (OCLI), passed away on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 at the age of 44. Dr. Carnevale was known for his kindness, charisma and goodwill. A great family man who put his wife and children first, Dr. Carnevale will be sorely missed by his patients, colleagues and all those who knew him in the ophthalmology industry.
“Our hearts are heavy for this loss not only because Dr. Carnevale was such an integral part of the OCLI family, but also because his passing was so unexpected,” said Tom Burke, CEO of OCLI. “We not only grieve at the passing of such a tremendous individual but also for the loss his family suffers.”
Dr. Carnevale was a partner and board certified ophthalmologist who was fellowship trained in Medical and Surgical Diseases of the Retina, Vitreous and Macula with OCLI. He was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the New York Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan and practiced in OCLI’s East Setauket, Lynbrook and Rockville Centre offices.
Dr. Carnevale graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Boston University. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from the New Jersey School of Medicine where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed an internship at the multi-specialty Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts and his Ophthalmology Residency at The New York Hospital – Cornell Medical Center.
While in his chief year of residency, Dr. Carnevale received the prestigious “Outstanding House-Officer” award for his skill and caring in ophthalmic surgery. During his training in vitreoretinal surgery at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Carnevale participated in several clinical trials for macular degeneration. These studies will lead to new innovations in the treatment of this blinding disorder.
Dr. Carnevale was a board certified member of numerous medical societies which include the American Board of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, New York State Ophthalmology Society and the Nassau County Medical Society.
