You may not be able to get a haircut or color service at Style Bar, but you can get a fabulous blowout and a glass of champagne or mimosa—all in pampered ambiance. Style Bar proprietor Rosemary Zollo noticed the trend for blowouts in her hometown of Huntington, and decided to open up at 1689 Northern Boulevard, catering to the women of Nassau’s north shore, including many from Port Washington.
Once she spotted the location, she placed an advertisement in Craig’s list to which many interested stylists responded. “I’m willing to share clients with local salons, being we don’t offer cut and color,” said Zollo, who hopes to create a friendly, local walk-in place for those wanting someone else to style their hair.
Style Bar is located adjacent to Flirt Salon. This new addition to Munsey Park Plaza since May has been doing very well – even if the summer months are a little slow due to neighborhood vacationers.
According to Zollo, more and more of these blow-out bars are popping up all over the place. However, her business is not only about blow-drying the hair. She offers an array of deep conditioning treatments, hair extensions, and package deals or memberships to choose from.
Ladies can save on cost while booking or planning for several blow-outs for the month with package deals. The salon offers 11 different “royal” styles, with names like Modern Kate, Classic Diana, Rebel Stephanie, or Sophisticated Caroline, as well as Soft Waves, Sleek & Smooth and more. There’s even a less pricey $25 blowout for princesses 12 and under.
According to Zollo, women like to have their hair blown-out professionally because the final result looks so much better than when they do it themselves. “Not all women get blowouts, but there are those that go every single week, like they do for their manicures,” added Zollo. “Many women don’t even wash their hair anymore but come here 2-3 times a week for a wash and blowdry – it’s become that popular.”
A blowout takes about half an hour. If a customer desires a curler, flat-iron, or a wand, she should plan to stay an extra 15 minutes. What’s nice is that every additional tool is included in the $35 per blow-out price. The six staff stylists often cut or do color at another salon or privately. “The women I hired love doing the styling of the hair and don’t mind doing that alone at Style Bar,” Zollo confirmed.
