Last week the Nativity scene was lit up on the side of the Port Washington Fire Department’s building on Port Washington Boulevard.
“The lighting of the Nativity marks the beginning of the Christmas Season…and provides a visual reminder of what this season is all about,” said Kevin Eustace, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus for Port Washington Council.
Eustace said the event was a combined effort of The Knights of Columbus & the Columbiettes, The John Michael Marino Lodge of the Order of the Sons of Italy, members of the North Hempstead Businessmen Association and generous donations from members of the community.
In attendance for this eighth annual event were about 50 children, parents and seniors.
Before the nativity scene was lit, Deacon Frank D’Angelo from St. Peter of Alcantara led a brief service. After the service he led the group in singing “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “Silent Night” and “Hark the Herald Angel Sing.”
Eustace said the stable the Nativity is displayed in was handmade by John Maura of Maura Brothers & Co., which also assists the Knights of Columbus with the transport of the Nativity each year.
