The second annual Hicksville alumni lacrosse game was held Saturday, Nov. 30 at Hicksville High School’s turf field.
The event, which is becoming a Hicksville Thanksgiving weekend tradition, raised $5,230 for the Michael Magro Foundation, an organization dedicated to the support of children with cancer and their families.
“It’s a great time when many of us are in town and can get together to raise money for a good cause,” said Class of 2005 alum Rob McCormick.
Unlike last year’s game, this year’s event also had two varsity games played before the alumni game. The three varsity teams were MDP Lacrosse, The Hicksville Penguins, and Long Island Lobsters. The Plainview Recon varsity lacrosse team did not play, but donated $300.
Alumni were split into two teams based on graduating year: odd years, or even years. The Odd year team claimed victory over the Even year team again as they won 15-5.
Many Hicksville residents and alumni came out to the event, enjoying the music of DJ Jeff, from Gem Entertainment, food, raffles, and 50/50. After the game, many went to Crossroads restaurant and enjoyed a buffet dinner, donated by owners Ted Marroti and Gary Schweitzer.
“We’re so elated that Hicksville High School hosted the alumni lacrosse game because lacrosse was the game that Michael played and enjoyed and loved,” said Vice President of the Michael Magro Foundation, Terrie Magro.
