Hempstead Shooting Leaves Teen Driver Hurt

A teenager was shot and wounded while driving a car through Hempstead late Saturday night, Nassau County police said.

Hempstead village police officers responded to a report of shots fired while a large crowd was crossing South Franklin Street and a Toyota Sienna was seen fleeing the scene  at 11:33 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.

Officers stopped the car shortly later and found the 17-year-old driver had suffered a gun shot to his right thigh, police said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. His passenger was not hurt.
