Proposed Park Repair Bond

greatneckThe Board of Commissioners of the Great Neck Park District will be holding a public hearing on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 8 p.m. at Great Neck House, 14 Arrandale Avenue, Great Neck.

Projects include replacement of the non-operational electric ice chiller at the Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink; repaving and improving the three commuter parking fields and the parking lots at Parkwood Sports Complex, Steppingstone Park and Kings Point Park, which have not been resurfaced in over thirty years; a natural gas back-up generator for Great Neck House; a generator to be used as back-up or for running the entire Parkwood Sports Complex; replacement of deteriorating 100-year-old red tile roof at Great Neck House; creation of a new Park Office at Five Beach Road to replace aging, termite-infested, sub-standard structure; repairs to rusted steel beams, door, lighting system and ceiling liner at indoor tennis facility; a new playground at Ielpi/Firefighters Park; a new spray pad for Steppingstone Park to bring equipment up to current code; and a multi-purpose turf field (Little League and soccer) for a portion of Memorial Field.

After numerous meetings with staff and qualified engineers, a plan has been devised to tackle these maintenance and improvement challenges. The total cost for the necessary bond package will be approximately $6.5 million, to be repaid over 15 years. — From The Great Neck Park District
