The North Hempstead Town Board will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14 to vote on whether or not to allow the installation of solar panels at two Port Washington landfills by a private company.
SunEdison Government Solutions, LLC wants to build a solar station at both landfills off West Shore Road. January 31 is the last day to submit an application for PSEG Long Island’s solar energy program. The Town Board will consider whether to award a contract to a solar developer in order to meet this deadline.
The proposed solar project would promote the use of renewable energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and revenue provided in the form of site lease payments for a 20-year period, according to the Town.
The public hearing will give residents the opportunity to comment and ask questions about this project.
“When it comes to a project of this scope, it is important that we seek public input and give residents an opportunity to voice their opinion,” Supervisor Judi Bosworth said. “I look forward to continuing to address questions and concerns at the public hearing.”
The meeting will be held at North Hempstead Town Hall (220 Plandome Rd., Manhasset) at 7:30 p.m. Residents are encouraged to attend.
