Victorian Tea
Queen Victoria made afternoon tea a national pastime for friends and family to enjoy each other and fine food. The Garden City Unitarian Universalist Congregation will be hosting its own Victorian Tea from 2-4 p.m. Enjoy delicious tea sandwiches, scones with jellies and clotted cream, cookies and a variety of hot teas while being entertained by pianist Joe McAuley. Benjamin Sheen Organ Recital
Benjamin Sheen will performing an organ recital at Garden City’s Cathedral of the Incarnation on 50 Cathedral Ave. at 4 p.m. Sheen is the assistant organist at Saint Thomas Church on Fifth Avenue, is a recent Juilliard graduate and is one of the UK’s brightest young organists. Hailed as a “brilliant organist” by The New York Times, he is the 2013 winner of the Pierre S. du Pont First Prize in the inaugural Longwood Gardens (Delaware) Organ Competition and also the winner of Second Prize at the St. Alban’s International Organ Competition 2013. Family Show—Cinderella
Garden City’s Department of Recreation and Parks and The Garden City Rams Girls’ Lacrosse program are presenting Plaza Theatrical Productions’ performance of Cinderella at 1 p.m. in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall. Admission is $3, payable at the door, but reservations are necessary and can be made by calling the recreation office at 516-465-4075. Remembrances Of Days Past
Memory is theme for juried exhibition: Nassau Community College and the Firehouse Plaza Art Gallery present a national juried Open Competition Exhibition: Speak Memory opening on Jan. 21 through March 13. The exhibition, juried by Lester Burg, explores the concept of memory. Memories can tie us to a time, place, or identify us with a culture or define us as part of a community. Interpretations can be personal or illustrate a historical or social event.
Juror Lester Burg serves as the senior manager for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Arts for Transit and Urban Design. MTA Arts for Transit has commissioned permanent art projects for New York subway and commuter railway stations, ranging across all media. Burg is involved with the artist selection for these projects, and helps manage the process of installation.

How To Pay Less Income Tax
Barry Lisak will lead a seminar to help reduce federal and New York State taxes at the Garden City Public Library at 7 p.m. Lisak, who is an IRS-enrolled agent and tax professional, is currently the tax columnist for New York’s civil service paper The Chief. All new 2013 tax laws will be highlighted and a free booklet, 21 IRS Audit Red Flags, will be distributed to all attendees. Topics include education, retirement, home ownership, charitable, medical, investment, employee and miscellaneous deductions. Remember to bring a pad and pencil. There is no registration and all are welcome.

Furniture Needed
The A.T.Stewart Exchange Consignment Shop at 109 Eleventh St. in Garden City is looking for furniture to add to its inventory. The shop can use cocktail tables, end tables, consoles, chairs of all types, dressers, dining room tables, breakfronts, servers, secretaries, mirrors, etc….it’s all in demand. If you have a particularly large piece, take a picture and show it to Maryann Caterino at the shop (516-746-8900). Consignees are paid 50 percent of the selling price. There is ample parking and the shop is conveniently located on the lower level of The Garden City Historical Society Museum. All proceeds from the A.T.Stewart Consignment Shop go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the Garden City Historical Society Museum, an original 1872 A.T.Stewart era Apostle Victorian structure.

Monthly Cancer Support Group
Franklin Hospital’s cancer support gro
up meets in the former coffee shop at North Shore LIJ Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream. The group regularly meets the first Monday of every month from 2 to 4 p.m. It is open to all cancer survivors, including family members and is ideal for people who need someone to talk to about the illness. Discussions include new medicines and treatments, advice on how to cope and also provides emotional support. Free Breast Cancer Support Groups
The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program is offering new support groups. There is no cost for any group; however pre-registration is required. Additional groups are formed upon request, including groups for men with breast cancer and family members. All groups meet at Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. Volunteers Sought For Breast Cancer Program
If you’ve had breast cancer and want to pay it forward become a hotline volunteer. Women and men who are breast cancer survivors and others who are concerned about breast health issues can become volunteers at the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program in Garden City. Volunteers can help by doing fundraising and publicity, as well as by answering hotline calls. Hotline volunteers provide emotional support, information and referral services to callers with breast health concerns. Although the program is housed on Long Island, hotline services and telephone counseling are available to callers throughout New York State.
