From Jan. 22 until Feb. 4, Temple Sinai will be hosting an Israeli Rabbinical fellow, Tamara Shifrin.
Shifrin is a student in the Israeli Rabbinical School program of the Hebrew Union College and comes to Temple Sinai as the Golden Hanassi Fellow. She will be learning about the American Reform Movement and educating our community about progressive Judaism in Israel.
Shifrin was born in Haifa and spent most of her professional life as a computer programmer. She then earned a Masters in Talmud from Bar Ilan University and entered the rabbinical program at HUC with the intention of becoming a spiritual leader for progressive Jewry in Israel. She is married with three children ages 22, 19 and 16.
Shifrin will observe Temple Sinai’s myriad of activities and share her life experiences as an Israeli and her expertise in the Torah. All are welcome to come to Shabbat services on Friday, Jan. 24 at 7:45 p.m., where she will be speaking. She will also be leading a discussion at the Shabbat Morning Minyan on Friday, Feb. 1 at 9 a.m.
In addition, Temple Sinai invites the community to a wine and cheese reception in honor of Shifrin before Shabbat services also on Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. RSVP to the temple office if you will be attending by calling 516-621-6800.
