Early Sunday morning at approximately 2 a.m., residents of Burnham Place in Munsey Park awoke to a loud noise and no electricity. During the latest seige of bad weather, strong winds caused a large tree to uproot and fall on powerlines causing a black out to neighboring houses and damage to property and vehicles.
A Burnham Place homeowner commented, “I knew it was windy, but I didn’t think it was that bad.”
The fallen tree was mature and seemed healthy but upon closer inspection had a rotted root system. The tree fell and snapped a utility pole which caused powerlines to be torn from the adjoining poles. Local area police were on the scene and quickly made calls to PSEG for assistance with downed power lines.
Crews were dispatched and several trucks came on the scene. The broken utility pole was promptly replaced and the process of re-wiring began. Residents were happy to have heat and power restored late Sunday afternoon.
